#Microsoft synctoy settings update
Feel free to update me if you find errors, I use it to synchronize my web servers.
The service reads the configuration file and puts all the pairs in listening mode, so if something changes, it immediately synchronizes accordingly. I accomplished this using windows service. What if you are able to create a service that constantly listens for changes in the right and left directories, and triggers the synchronization if something changes on either side? I am adding an additional challenge though.

And I don't have a clue how to deserialize this file from within WSH scripts. The log file does not contain any data about folder pairs (even not when changing the config file trace level from "Info" to "Verbose".Īnd I have difficulties to analyze the bin file from within my script as it is not a plain text file. The SyncToyDirPairs.bin and SyncToyLog.log files are located in the same dir. I also FileMon'ed the creation of a SyncToy 2.0 folder pair to find the "plain text" file that you talked about, but I could not find any. Is there anything i have to do before trying to create this object?Ĭould you perhaps provide a small example script, please? Set syntoyeng=WScript.CreateObject("SyncToy.SyncEngine")Ĭould not locate automation class name "SyncToy.SyncEngine". This will allow you to view the events when files are moved.
Despite what MS says, it also works on W2K3 as well as XP. I use it to syncrhonize files between two load balanced W2K3 servers that run websites. Grief? I can't find much around about it but have posted these links in case they give you some ideas.Microsoft's SyncToy has really been a godsend. I wonder whether a problem with AutoRuns is causing your How to Create Autorun Application in USB DriveĪ few months ago there was a spate of Windows Updates involving AutoRun (they may have been before Windows 7 was officially released, but they also may have been included in Windows 7 by design?). If you can work out how to detect the insertion of removable media maybe you can do something via a Scheduled Task? You could just launch SyncToy as a Scheduled Task at some set time and insert your removable media. In Windows 7 you may have to settle for a clickable Shortcut to SyncToy placed on your USB drive? Much of the AutoRun.inf stuff (not AutoPlay) has been disabled in Windows 7 for security reasons. Sorry to everyone who thinks this is a trivial automation. I don't want the synchronization (echo) process to initiate. Just to be clear, the goal is to get SyncToy to open. I found compatibility on one of Microsoft's Windows 7 pages. However, it appeared to me that TweakUI isn't compatible with Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit).

I install Microsoft TweakUI, and have it add SyncToy to the AutoPlay list. I tried this with and without quotation marks.

In it, I included the full path for SyncToy on the computer. I also triedĬreating an AUTORUN.INF file in the root directory of the external harddrive. That got the AutoPlay dialog to come up, but there was no way to select SyncToy as the action to run. I went to the AutoPlay settings in the Control Panel and changed the Mixed Content setting to "Ask me every time". What I'm trying to do is have the SyncToy program open when I plug in the external drive.
I use Microsoft SyncToy to "echo" files from one folder on my internal harddrive to a folder on the external harddrive.

I have a portable external USB harddrive. I asked this question over on Experts-Exchange, and they couldn't figure it out, so I'm hoping you all will have some ideas. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
